LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19 -- The Justice Department’s antitrust division asked for more information from Baker Hughes Inc. and BJ Services Co. regarding the proposed merger of the two firms.

The two Houston-based companies said they would comply promptly. In August, Baker Hughes said it would acquire BJ Services for $5.5 billion.

Earlier this month, BJ Services announced the launch of the world's largest high-performance stimulation vessel for oil and gas wells in the Lower Tertiary and other Gulf of Mexico formations. The Blue Dolphin stimulation vessel will begin sea trials this fall and is expected to join BJ’s global fleet this winter.
