HOUSTON, Sept. 22
– Seneca Resources Corp., Williamsville, NY, said its first operated Marcellus shale horizontal well averaged 5.8 MMcfd of gas over 6 days.

The well, in Tioga County, Pa., exhibited almost no decline, the company said.

Seneca, drilling its third horizontal well, plans to drill 15-20 more in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2010. It participated in 12 wells drilled by EOG Resources Inc. in fiscal 2009 and will participate in 20 EOG-operated wells in fiscal 2010.

Seneca plans to build production to 20-30 MMcfd from the Marcellus by the end of fiscal 2010.
