HOUSTON, Sept. 21
– SOCO International PLC has spud the Viodo-4 well in the Marine XI Block in the Congo basin off Congo (Brazzaville) to appraise the 1986 Viodo oil discovery.

The appraisal well, in 65 m of water, targets the Cretaceous Toca formation, a lacustrine carbonate developed below the regional salt horizon. The Conoco Inc. discovery well went to TD 11,527 ft and tested 1,135 b/d of 27° gravity oil.

Three of the four existing wells drilled in 1986-90 tested oil and found the accumulation to be geologically complex. The new well is designed to add to the technical understanding with a comprehensive data collection and well test program.
