LONDON, Aug. 26 -- StatoilHydro let a $73 million contract to FMC Technologies Inc. to manufacture and supply subsea equipment for Gullfaks oil and gas field in the northern Norwegian North Sea by second-quarter 2010.

FMC’s work includes eight subsea production trees, associated equipment, and systems including flow control modules and subsea control modules. The project will be managed from FMC’s operation in Kongsberg, Norway.

This equipment will help to increase oil recovery in the North Sea to 62% from 59% through horizontal and extended-reach wells, new completion and sand control technology, and water alternating gas injection.

Gullfaks field, which is producing, lies on Block 34/10.
