HOUSTON, Aug. 6 – Rex-East, an extension of the Rockies Express Pipeline from Missouri to eastern Ohio, is pegged for full service by Nov. 1, 2009, on its most easterly segment.

The 42-in. Rex-East line is to run 638 miles from near Mexico in Audrain County, Mo., to connections with several interstate gas pipelines near Clarington in Monroe County, Ohio, southwest of Wheeling, WV.

Service began June 29, 2009, on the Rex-East segment from Audrain County, Mo., to the Lebanon hub in Warren County south of Dayton, Ohio. Current throughput is 1.6-1.8 bcfd, the company said. Gas is transshipped to other pipelines at eight points.

The 1,679-mile, 1.6 bcfd pipeline originates in Rio Blanco County, Colo., in the Piceance basin. Markets are in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

Owners of Rex-East are Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP; Sempra Pipelines & Storage, a unit of Sempra Energy; and ConocoPhillips.

The Nov. 1 service date applies to the eastern segment from Lebanon to Clarington.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission initiated a review of the Rex-East project in June 2006 and authorized the project in mid-2008 (OGJ Online, May 30, 2008).
