LONDON, Aug. 25 -- A consortium led by Belayim Petroleum Co. (Petrobel), a joint operating company owned by International Egypt Oil Co. (IEOC) and Egyptian General Petroleum Corp., brought on stream Egypt’s North Bardawil gas field via a subsea production system that will deliver 17,000 boe/d at full capacity.

Eni SPA, which operates in Egypt through IEOC, said the discovery used an innovative smart completion system for the first time in the country.

Gas is being produced via two subsea wells drilled by the Scarabeo-4 semisubmersible rig in the Mediterranean. A 24-km pipeline in 110-350 m of water was tied back to the existing production Barboni platform.

Eni will have equity production of 6,000 boe/d from the field. IEOC has 60% interest in the project. Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co. holds 40% share.

IEOC started operating in Egypt in 1955 and last year reported 522,000 boe/d of production, of which 240,000 boe/d was equity production.
