LONDON, Aug. 20 -- JKX Oil & Gas PLC has started gas production from Hajdúnánás field in northeast Hungary a year after its initial discovery.
The field is delivering 3.5 MMcfd, which will rise to 8.5 MMcfd after the Hajdúnánás-2 well comes on stream in the next month. Preliminary estimates indicate 12 bcf of gas in place in the Pannonian sands.
“The newly completed Hajdúnánás gas plant is connected via a 14.7 km, 8-in. diameter pipeline to a tie-in and fiscal metering point on the national gas network,” said JKX.
Fogaz Zrt, the Hungarian subsidiary of the German utility, RWE AG, is buying the gas.
Last November drillstem tests on the field produced 15 MMcfd with excellent gas quality from thicker sequence of Pannonian sands. The Hajdúnánás-2 well reached a TVD of 1,467 m and encountered several gas-bearing intervals within the Miocene Pannonian interval between 990-1,080 m.
The Hajdúnánás field is the first development on the Hernád licenses, which cover 5,420 sq km.
Exploration continues on the Hernád licenses with additional drilling results expected through the remainder of the year. JKX holds a 50% interest in the licenses.
