PARIS, Aug. 7 – GDF Suez took delivery of two new LNG carriers under long-term charter with Norway’s BW Gas, which owns and will operate the vessels.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Engineering built the ships, BW GDF Suez Brussels and BW GDF Suez Paris, at Goeje Island, South Korea. Each has a cargo containment system with carrying capacity of 162,400 cu m.

The carriers will carry cargoes from Yemen LNG under a 2.5 million tonne/year purchase contract.

For 3 years beginning in the first quarter of 2010, the BW GDF Suez Brussels will function as a floating storage unit at the 1.4 million tonne/year terminal GDF Suez is building in partnership with Codelco, a major copper producer, at Mejillones, Chile, due on stream in early 2010 (OGJ, May 25, 2009, p. 33).
