LONDON, Aug. 17 -- Venture Production PLC reported it plans to start production from Ceres natural gas field in the southern UK North Sea later this year.

Ceres will be developed using a single subsea well tied back to the nearby Eris discovery, previously known as Channon. The well tested at 40 MMscfd of gas through a 96/64-in. choke from the Rotliegend reservoir between 10,300-15,600 ft. The horizontal well was completed as the field production well on Ceres.

Michael T. Lynch, Chairman of EnCore Oil PLC, a partner in the field, said the company was considering selling its stake in the field and was in talks with potential buyers.

Venture has a 90% interest in the field, while EnCore holds 10%.
