HOUSTON, June 16 -- Africa Oil Corp., Vancouver, BC, plans to acquire Turkana Energy Inc., also of Vancouver, which holds exploration rights to Block 10BB in northwestern Kenya.
Turkana will ask shareholders to approve the deal in mid-July.
The 3.2 million acre block is part of the East Africa Tertiary rift trend and is west of blocks 10A and 9 held by Africa Oil.
Block 10BB has similar rifted structures and reservoirs as found in Lake Albert, which have proved the existence of the Tertiary source rock that generated the light oil recovered from Shell’s Loperot-1 well in 1992.
