LONDON, Mar. 8 -- StatoilHydro has signed a $17 million engineering and installation contract with Subsea 7 Inc. for its Snorre B riser replacement project in the Norwegian North Sea.

Subsea 7 will carry out engineering, subsea preparations, and subsea disconnection and recovery of three damaged flexible risers, installation of three new risers (two 5-in. and one 8-in. riser) on the Snorre B platform and subsea tie-in of the risers to templates C & D. The offshore work will begin in April for a September completion.

The main offshore operations, including the riser recovery, installation, and tie-in operations, will be performed by Subsea 7's Seven Seas specialized flexible pipelay and construction vessel.

Tor Espedal, Subsea 7's Norway vice-president, said the work be demanding because of the platform riser configuration, the weight and size of the risers, and the fast-track nature of the project.

Snorre oil field is in the Tampen area 210 km northwest of Bergen on the Norwegian continental shelf. The sea depth in the area is 300-350 m. Snorre B is a semisubmersible integrated drilling, processing, and accommodation facility in the northern part of the field.
