Nov. 24: Richard H. Jones, deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency, and Fatih Birol, IEA's chief economist, will discuss the organization's new World Energy Outlook at the Center for Strategic and International Studies at 1800 K Street NW at 10 a.m.

Why it matters: This new edition of the authoritative World Energy Outlook presents IEA's view of key energy trends and focuses on two pressing issues facing the sector today: future prospects for global oil and gas production and post-2012 climate scenarios. It takes a hard look at future supplies with a field-by-field analysis of production trends at 800 of the world's largest oilfields, an assessment of the potential for finding and developing new reserves and a bottom-up analysis of upstream costs and investment.

The report also reviews two different climate scenarios and distills the implications for energy demand, investment, prices, air pollution, and energy security. Its extensive data, detailed projections and in-depth analysis provide valuable insights into the prospects for the global energy market and what they mean for climate change.
