The US Bureau of Land Management said on Nov. 6 that it has approved the Marianne 3-D geophysical exploration project in the Horsethief Canyon and Bitter Creek area northeast of the Rock Springs, Wyo., airport.

The US Department of the Interior agency's Rock Springs field office said that Petroleum Geo-Services Onshore Inc. will perform the 59-square-mile evaluation for the Samson Resources division of Samson Investment Co. in Tulsa. Interstate 80 divides the area, it noted.

Plans call for completion of the project's northern portion by Nov. 15, before big game crucial winter range stipulations go into effect, BLM said. The project's southern portion is scheduled to be completed in December.

BLM said that it anticipates no significant adverse impacts on sensitive resources because of measures and commitments which the applicant accepted as conditions of approval for the project.
