LONDON, Oct. 13 -- E.On Ruhrgas UK North Sea Ltd. has let a €32 million lump-sum contract to Technip SA to design and install a new gas export pipeline in the second quarter of 2009 for Babbage gas field in the southern North Sea. First gas deliveries are planned for early 2010.
The new 28-km line will connect the new Babbage platform to existing subsea infrastructure within the "West Sole Bravo 500 m zone" in water 25 m deep. Technip said it would use its Apache and Orelia vessels and third party vessels to execute the contract.
E.On and its partners plan to drill 3 wells in the field, and they have an option to drill two additional wells after first production begins. The gas will be transported to West Sole and onwards to the Dimlington terminal on Humberside.
Technip also will design and install a 40-ton manifold and three flexible tie-in jumpers, pipeline protection materials, trenching, and backfilling of the gas export pipeline, as well as carrying out precommissioning, tie-ins, and testing. Its upgraded spoolbase in Evanton, Scotland will weld the gas pipeline.
Babbage shareholders include E.On, which holds a 47% stake, Dana Petroleum PLC 40%, and Centrica Resources 13%.
