LONDON, Sept. 23 -- Afren PLC, Gasol PLC, and Electricite de France (EDF) have signed a memorandum of understanding to investigate developing stranded natural gas projects in West Africa.
The partners will consider setting up a gas aggregation joint venture to focus on opportunities in the region.
Afren said the proposed JV will develop gas to proved status, construct requisite collection networks to aggregate, and deliver the gas to a central gas processing hub for domestic use or export as LNG to global markets.
Working with EDF, the companies expect to focus on proving gas reserves. Gasol and EDF will focus on collecting the gas and processing, liquefying, and monetizing it.
Afren added that the MOU builds on a cooperation agreement signed in January with E.ON Ruhrgas AG and Gasol to assess potential gas projects in Nigeria's Anambra basin and southeastern regions.
