LONDON, Sept. 18 -- Mediterranean Oil & Gas PLC, London, plans to resume natural gas production from the Italian Vigna Nocelli 1 well in 2009 following a rigless workover on the well.
Six gas sand levels have been opened at 950-1,116 m deep and a large increment of pressure recorded in the well, which is on the Torrente Celone gas production concession.
The company will carry out maintenance work along the existing gas production pipeline. MOG operates the well with a 50% interest.
MOG also has spud the onshore Masseria De Palma 1dir (MP1d) exploration well on the Lucera gas production concession in southern Italy. Fields on the acreage already produce gas, and any discovery would be tied into the existing gas plant.
The exploration play is targeting prospective gas resources of 5.5-9 bcf in the prolific Pliocene sand levels of the Bradano Trough.
"MP1d should reach the target depth of 1,872 m in approximately 25 days. If the well is successful, testing and completion are forecast to take an additional 20 days," MOG said.
The exploration targets in the Pliocene gas sand complex are expected at 1,036-1,872 m.
MOG hopes to submit a field development plan to the Italian government in November for the offshore Ombrina Mare concession in Italy.
It has hired independent reserve engineers, Studio Ingegneria Mineraria (SIM), to assess the gas reserves at Ombrina Mare. SIM's assessment is expected to be finalized by the end of September.
"The Masseria de Palma and Vigna Nocelli operations are part of the company's on-going gas production and reserves enhancement strategy," said Sergio Morandi, the company's chief executive.
"The company is maximizing the gas production potential from its existing portfolio of production concessions and the utilization of the existing production wells, gas production plants, and other infrastructure."
