LONDON, Aug. 6 -- StatoilHydro has contracted PGS Geophysical ASA, CGG Veritas, and Wavefield Inseis ASA to carry out seismic surveys in 2009 on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, the Faroes, and Ireland in contracts worth 1.2 billion kroner.
The companies will use towed multistreamer surveys to gather 2D, 3D, and 4D data.
PGS Geophysical will use new technology for 3D surveys that would make the seismic operations less dependent on benign weather and will improve the production of seismic data. The company's president and chief executive, Jon Erik Reinhardsen, said the contract award signified that oil companies are continuing to secure capacity early in a buoyant seismic market.
StatoilHydro said it will also try alternative streamer steering technology that would allow it to compare present results with previous ones and improve results for 4D studies.
Four vessels from PGS Geophysical, two from CGG Veritas, and one vessel from Wavefield Inseis will be in operation for StatoilHydro during 2009.
