PARIS, July 1 -- Gaz de France has signed an agreement with PowerGas, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Power, to jointly build and operate Singapore's first LNG terminal. GDF will hold a 30% stake in the project.

The 3 million tonne/year terminal will be built on a 30-hectare site on Jurong Island. Work should start in 2009 and the terminal is slated to be on stream in 2012 (OGJ, Apr. 28, 2008, Newsletter).

The plant's capacity can be expanded to 6 million tpy and ultimately to 10 million tpy by the mid-2020s.

The cost has not yet been worked out, a spokeswoman for GDF told OGJ, because the different construction negotiations are not yet complete.

BG Group will supply LNG to the import terminal.
