HOUSTON, July 15 -- Bangladesh is expected to award eight offshore blocks to ConocoPhillips and one block to Tullow Oil, the chairman of state-run oil and gas company, Petrobangla, told reporters in Dhaka. The blocks are in the Bay of Bengal.

The finalists were selected after Petrobangla evaluated bids from seven companies, Petrobangla Chairman Jalal Ahmed told AFP on July 13.

Ahmed said he hopes the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will approve the finalists in October and that exploration could start within 3 months after that.

Bangladesh invited bids for exploration in February after dividing its territory in the Bay of Bengal into 28 blocks.
