HOUSTON, June 18 -- Pembina Pipeline Corp. has continued containment activities related to a release of sweet crude oil near a crossing of the Red Deer River about 5 km north of Sundre (OGJ Online, June 16, 2008).

Crews have placed and are maintaining booms where the river enters the west end of Glennifer Lake and near the dam at the east end. Teams are removing oil from the absorbent pads on the booms and have begun the clean-up of oily sheen and debris on the shoreline.

Pembina has also mobilized airboats and helicopters on the river between the release site and the entrance to Glennifer Lake to identify and begin recovery of small isolated hydrocarbon accumulations.

The cause of the break is under investigation but high water levels prevent inspection of the pipeline at this time, Pembina said. It will continue to provide regular updates as the containment and assessment activities progress.
