LONDON, June 6 -- Lundin Kenya BV will gain a 30% interest in operator CNOOC Africa Ltd.'s Block 9 in the Anza basin of northwestern Kenya.

The agreement requires the approval of the Kenyan energy ministry prior to finalization. The block adjoins the Lundin-operated Block 10a in the basin.

Block 9 covers 27,778 sq km and has had only three exploratory wells drilled on it in the late 1980s. Operational plans for 2008 include finalizing the acquisition of 2D seismic data and preparation for well drilling in 2009.
