HOUSTON, May 6 -- TXCO Resources Inc., San Antonio, took encouragement from the first well drilled horizontally in Cretaceous Pearsall shale.

Cage 26-2, in Maverick County, Tex., averaged just above 1.1 MMcfd of gas for the first 30 days after fracs in two of five Pearsall intervals and is still making 100 b/d of frac fluid.

A second Pearsall well, Comanche 34-1, has been drilled horizontally and cased in the lateral. The rig is to shortly spud Meyers 2-683.

Briscoe Chupadera Ranch 1, a horizontal recompletion started in late April, and TXCO's third horizontal Pearsall well, is the first on Anadarko Petroleum Corp. acreage in the basin under an April agreement.
