HOUSTON, May 10 -- European and Russian oil and gas operators have awarded drilling contractor KCA Deutag five contracts valued at a total of more than $100 million for land drilling and extensions of existing drilling contracts.

Burgaz, Gazprom's Russian drilling subsidiary, contracted the driller's T-500 rig for a 16-month plus extensions, four-well drilling campaign in Novyi Urengoi field in the Yamburg region of western Siberia. The rig mobilized in early April from less than 100 km in the same field where it has been working for Achimgaz (Gazprom/Wintershall) under a three-well contract.

Also in Russia, the TNK-BP/Rosneft partnership VCNG has extended until the end of May its existing contract with the driller for the T-2000 rig. In addition, VCNG issued a letter of intent for another 3-year contract for the same rig beginning June 1 for its ongoing drilling program in eastern Siberia.

GeoEnergy GmbH of Germany awarded KCA Deutag a 3-year contract, beginning in August, for its T-46 land rig. It will be used for the geothermal drilling of 10-12 wells to depths of 2,800-3,800 m in Oberrheingraben, Germany.

German utility company Gasag awarded KCA Deutag a contract for its T-85 rig to undertake a 6-week workover program in B-12 field in Berlin beginning in May.
