LONDON, May 28 -- Burullus Gas Co. let a contract to Saipem SPA for subsea development of Sequoia field, which lies 130 km northeast of Alexandria, Egypt, in 70-570 m of water. Sequoia straddles the Rosetta and West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concessions in the Nile River Delta.

Saipem will execute an engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning contract for Sequoia, which is expected to come on stream in 2009 (OGJ Online, Feb. 22, 2008). Dry gas will be delivered via a new 22-in. export pipeline. North Sequoia will be tied in to WDDM facilities, and southern Sequoia will feed to Rosetta facilities.

Saipem's field development ship will use both J-lay and S-lay pipeline installation methods to match the complexities of the shallow and deep water operational environments.
