LONDON, Apr. 10 -- Qatar Petroleum signed an assignment agreement Apr. 8 purchasing from Total SA a 20% stake in the Ta7 and Ta8 Taoudenni permits in Mauritania.

Total will continue to operate the acreage, spanning 58,000 sq km, with a 60% share.

The transaction is subject to approval by the Mauritanian Ministry of Oil and Mines.

Total said the deal demonstrates its commitment to developing strategic partnerships with national oil companies following its sale of a 20% stake to Sonatrach on the same blocks.

In Qatar, Total has interests in Al Khalij field, North field, the Dolphin project, the Qatargas I liquefaction plant, and the second train of Qatargas II currently under construction. The Group's production in Qatar (including its share in the production of equity affiliates) averaged 74,000 boe/d in 2007. This production is expected to increase greatly with the ramp-up of Dolphin.
