HOUSTON, Apr. 15 -- GeoMet Inc., Houston, was drilling horizontally in the Devonian Chattanooga shale at an exploration project north of Birmingham, Ala.

GeoMet, operator with 100% interest in 70,000 gross acres in Cullman and Blount counties, has drilled five core holes and three vertical production test wells with encouraging results. It is continuing to lease.

The 2008 capital program calls for $5.4 million in spending to drill three wells.

The highly organic gas-bearing shale is 35-75 ft thick at 1,600-2,100 ft. The company said it has multiple gas marketing options on the leases.
