LOS ANGELES, Apr. 29 -- Spain's Enagas awarded a contract to Fluor Corp. for the detailed engineering, procurement services, and construction management of the El Musel LNG terminal to be built along Spain's north coast.

The facility will be built at the El Musel Commercial Port near the city of Gijon in the province of Asturias. The terminal will include two 150,000 cu m LNG tanks, along with a regasification send-out capacity of 800,000 cu m/hr.

The LNG terminal will provide gas to combined-cycle power plants and will help diversify fuel sources of electric power generation in the region. The new facility will help Spain achieve its goal of having gas reserves equal to 35 days of gas consumption.

Under the contract, Fluor will be responsible for project contracts and materials worth $320 million. All engineering for the project will be performed from Fluor's Asturias office. Groundbreaking is scheduled for early this year; construction completion and commissioning is expected in 2011.
