LONDON, Mar. 4 -- Timan Oil & Gas PLC plans to secure financing to drill another 150 wells this year in Nizhnechutinskoye oil field (NGPT field) in the Timan-Pechora region of western Russia.

About 113 wells will be production wells, and the other 37 will be water injectors in the shallow field, which holds more than 1 billion bbl of original oil in place.

Timan will target the shallowest pool, Reservoir I, which lies 28-150 m below the surface, and contains a low-viscosity, light, sweet crude of 34º gravity. Heavier oils are found in the deeper reservoirs. However, production from Reservoir I is poor because of low reservoir pressure and Timan will use water injection to boost production.

"Our current modeling suggests that at the optimum injection rates of 150-230 b/d/well, we should achieve around 22 psi reservoir pressure increase by the end of 2008, and this should result in increased initial well rates from current levels to 17-29 b/d," Timan said.

Four wells in NGPT field have produced between 2-35 b/d following the company's pilot water injection scheme.

In February, Timan had eight production wells flowing 25-34 b/d in aggregate and four wells injecting water at a combined rate of 292 b/d.

Timan said it has invested a considerable sum on preliminary development of the NGPT area, including 18 km of roads, 1.6 km of power transmission lines, a field camp, and construction of a 7,000 b/d oil treatment plant that currently can treat 1,500 b/d of oil.
