LONDON, Mar. 24 -- Hayan Petroleum Co. plans to construct a $454 million gas treatment plant in Jihar field on Syria's Hayan Block by first-quarter 2011.

It sent a letter of intent to Petrofac of London to execute engineering, procurement, and construction of the plant. Petrofac also will oversee the plant's precommissioning, commissioning, and start-up.

Gas, condensate, and oil from Jihar, Al Mahr, and Jazal fields will be treated at the plant and at an LPG recovery system. Petrofac also will construct an LPG storage and loading facility, gas gathering and collection systems, satellite gathering station, well sites, flow lines, utilities, offsite facilities, gathering pipelines, and living quarters.

The Hayan Block is near the town of Palmyra. Hayan Petroleum, owned equally by Syrian Petroleum Co. and INA Industrija Nafte d.d.-Naftaplin (a unit of Croatian company INA d.d.), has some 10 years of experience in Syria's oil industry.
