Mar. 11: "Evaluating Energy Infrastructure Projects: A Case Study on the Costs and Benefits of LNG Investment," 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, 1800 K Street NW. Co-sponsored by the University of Texas Center for Energy Economics.

Why it matters: Practically every major energy forecast points to growing US dependence on natural gas and increasing reliance on liquefied natural gas imports as a result. The UT Center for Energy Economics recently completed a study of issues in locating LNG infrastructure facilities, including community and economic benefits, and lessons which have been learned for other large energy infrastructure projects.

Michelle Michot Foss and Mariano Gurfinkel, the study's authors, will discuss what they found. Linda G. Stuntz, a principal in the law firm Stuntz, Davis & Staffier who was deputy US energy secretary from 1992 to 1993, and Gordon Weil of the Weil & Howe consulting group, will offer responses.

The speakers will offer thoughts on key issues and constraints in developing critical energy infrastructure in the US and abroad, including both security considerations for infrastructure assets and implications for overall energy security and delivery, CSIS says.
