LONDON, Feb. 28 -- TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Co. will shoot a 3D seismic survey across 4,100 sq km in the Gulf of Mexico for various clients.

The Orion 3D survey will cover 175 Outer Continental Shelf blocks on Lloyd Ridge which is in the 181 South area. This was recently opened to operators, following the most recent 5-year leasing plan announced by the US Minerals Management Service.

TGS said the March 2009 OCS lease sale will be the first opportunity for oil companies to lease tracts in the area in more than 20 years.

The exploration potential includes seismic attribute plays as well as deeper structural opportunities, and if discoveries are made, these can be tied back to the Independence Hub production facility on Mississippi Canyon Block 920 that is operated by several independent oil companies. It produces gas from Spiderman, San Jacinto, Atlas Northwest, Atlas, Mondo Northwest, and Cheyenne wells.

TGS will use the Fugro GeoBarents seismic vessel with 9,000 m streamer offsets and will process the data with both prestack time and prestack depth imaging.
