HOUSTON, Feb. 28 -- Repsol-YPF SA, planning to double the capacity of its 100,000 b/d Cartagena refinery in Spain, has awarded a $1.3 billion contract to Fluor Corp. for the project management of much of the project.
The $4.8 billion project represents the largest refinery upgrade and expansion project in Spain in the past 30 years, said David Seaton, president of Fluor's Energy & Chemicals Group.
The project includes the design and construction of new units and the refurbishment and expansion of existing units, as well as construction of utilities and offsites.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for early 2008, with construction completion and commissioning expected in 2011.
