BANGKOK, Jan. 29 -- Pearl Energy, Singapore, is seeking four additional exploration tracts onshore in Thailand.

The firm applied for Blocks L39/50 (3,987 sq km) and L50/50 (2,847 sq km) in the northeast region's Khorat Plateau, as well as Blocks L52/50 (3,085 sq km) and L53/50 (3,872 sq km) in the southern plains, which it sought jointly with Australian partner Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd.

They were the only applicants in the seventh submission month that ended Jan 15.

During Thailand's current 20th round of petroleum concession bidding, Pearl earlier was awarded onshore acreage L21/50 (3,962 sq km) in Khorat Plateau and offshore Block G2/50 (1,126 sq km) in the Gulf of Thailand.

At the same time, Carnarvon, along with Australia's Sun Resources NL, won the onshore Block L20/50 (3,962 sq km) in the central plains.

Meanwhile, the Department of Mineral Fuels said 28 blocks—27 onshore and 1 in the gulf—remain available in the current round.

To date, 38 exploration blocks (30 onshore and 8 offshore) have been bid, with 27 tracts awarded.
