Alaska's state government will make public five proposals it has received to construct a natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to markets in the Lower 48 states.

Sometime after Jan. 1, 2008: Alaska's state government will make public five proposals it has received to construct a natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to markets in the Lower 48 states.

Why it matters: A state gas pipeline team has been reviewing the proposals by Alaska Gasline Port Authority, AEnergia LLC, TransCanada, Sinopec ZPEB and the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority. Letters will be issued to each applicant advising whether it has met statutory requirements and will be allowed to proceed to the evaluation phase under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act's process. During the public comment phase, Alaskans and others will get their first look at the completed applications and evaluate which would provide maximum benefits to the state and its residents and merits issuance of a license. Notices that the public review and comment period has begun will be published in newspapers across the state and online at http://notes5.state.ak.us/pn.
