HOUSTON, Nov. 2 -- US drilling activity rebounded by 35 rotary rigs to 1,795 working this week, up from 1,739 this time last year, said Baker Hughes Inc.
Land drilling accounted for most of the gain, up 30 to 1,710 units drilling. Offshore activity increased by 5 to 57 rotary rigs on federal offshore leases, including 56 in the Gulf of Mexico.
Texas led the rebound with an increase of 26 rigs to 854 working. Louisiana's rig count gained 9 to 167. Oklahoma was up 5 to 193, while Colorado had 114 rotary rigs drilling, 4 more than the previous week. Wyoming added 3, for a total of 75. Alaska increased by 1 to 9 rigs, and California was unchanged at 42. New Mexico posted the only decline, down 5 with 69 rigs working.
Canada's weekly rig count increased by 23 to 368, down from 376 during the same period in 2006.
