LONDON, Nov. 28 -- Norske Shell AS will assume operatorship of the Ormen Lange natural gas field from StatoilHydro SA on Dec. 1.

Norway's pipeline operator Gassco AS manages the Langeled subsea pipeline, which extends from the Ormen Lange gas processing plant onshore at Aukra, Norway, to Easington on the English east coast via the Sleipner area.

Morten Ruud, executive vice-president for projects at StatoilHydro, said: "Production has good regularity, and everything is working satisfactorily." The field is expected to supply 70 million cu m/day of gas and 50,000 b/d of condensate at peak rate.

Statoil shared operatorship of the development phase with Hydro since 1999. The two companies merged earlier this year.

Ormen Lange partners are Norske Shell, operator with a 17.04% interest, Petoro AS 36.48%, StatoilHydro 28.91%, Dong E&P Norge AS 10.34%, and ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS 7.23%.
