LONDON, Nov. 28 -- Petrofac will design and install additional field compression facilities on the In Salah gas project in southwest Algeria to ensure a gas production plateau of 9 billion cu m/year beyond 2009.
The $600 million engineering, procurement, and construction contract covers three northern fields: REG, TEG, and Krechba from the District 3 region in central Sahara.
Petrofac said it would reduce pressure at the wellheads and compress the gas to the required inlet pressure for existing facilities. "The facilities at TEG and REG will be almost identical with two trains of single-stage compression at each site, using gas turbines to drive the compressors," Petrofac said. "The Krechba facility will consist of a single train of compression driven by an electric motor, with additional power requirements being met by installing a third gas turbine generator."
Work will include tie-ins to existing facilities at all three locations.
The contract marks Petrofac's entry into the southwest Algeria area. In Salah Gas (ISG) is a joint venture of Sonatrach 35%, BP PLC 33%, and StatoilHydro SA 32%.
ISG also expects to develop the southern In Salah fields.
