Pemex lets contract for Yaxche platforms

Pemex E&P awarded ICA Fluor subsidiary Industrias del Hierro two contracts for the design and construction of two lightweight drilling platforms, Yaxche-B and KAB-A.

HOUSTON, Oct. 4 -- Pemex Exploration & Production has awarded Industrias del Hierro (IH), a subsidiary of ICA Fluor, two contracts for the design and construction of two lightweight drilling platforms, Yaxche-B and KAB-A. The four-legged, fixed platforms will operate in fields of the same name off Tabasco in 20 m of water in the Gulf of Mexico (OGJ, Feb. 2, 2004, p. 45).

The total combined value of the contracts is about $20 million.

The contracts cover engineering, procurement, construction, load-out, and seabed-fastening.

Each platform weighs about 1,600 tonnes. Yaxche-B is expected to be completed by April 2008 and KAB-A by May 2008.

ICA Fluor is jointly owned by Fluor Corp. and Empresas ICA.
