JV forms Adria LNG to build Croatian LNG terminal

Five energy companies planning the construction of a 10 billion cu m/year LNG terminal on the Croatian island of Krk have formed the company Adria LNG to manage the project.

LONDON, Oct. 8 -- Five energy companies planning the construction of a 10 billion cu m/year LNG terminal on the Croatian island of Krk in the northern Adriatic have formed the company Adria LNG to manage the project.

Capacity of the terminal could be increased to 15 billion cu m/year, and operations are expected to start in 2012.

"It will be designed for LNG tankers carrying up to 265,000 cu m," said project partner Total SA. "Final investment decision for the project is expected [by yearend] 2008."

Companies participating in Adria LNG include E.On Ruhrgas 31.15%, Total 25.58%, OMV AG 25.58%, RWE 16.69%, and Geoplin 1%.
