US drilling activity decreases

US drilling declined for the week ended Sept. 14, down by 27 units to 1,787 rotary rigs still working vs. 1,814 during the previous week, said Baker Hughes Inc.

HOUSTON, Sept. 14 -- US drilling declined for the week ended Sept. 14, down by 27 units to 1,787 rotary rigs still working vs. 1,814 during the previous week, said Baker Hughes Inc.

Land operations absorbed most of this week's loss, down 34 rigs to 1,683 drilling. Inland waters operations gained 6 rigs to 29 making hole. Offshore operations also were up 1 rig to 73 in the Gulf of Mexico and 75 rigs total in federal waters.

Texas' weekly rig count decreased by 26 to 829 rigs drilling. Wyoming's count was down by 3 rigs to 75 active rigs. New Mexico was down 4 with 75 active rigs. Alaska was down by 1 to 5 active rigs.

Colorado had the biggest gain among the major producing states, up 10 to 120 rigs working. Oklahoma gained 4 to 197. California was up by 1 with 37 rigs. Louisiana was unchanged at 178.

Canada's rig count jumped by 29 to 364, still down from 502 during the same period a year ago.
