LOS ANGELES, Sept. 7 -- Marubeni Corp. has signed an agreement with SK Energy for Marubeni to acquire 10% interest in the Peru LNG Project's liquefaction plant at Pampa Melchorita, south of Lima.

Scheduled to begin operating in 2010, the plant will receive natural gas feedstock from Camisea gas field, and it will produce some 4.45 million tonnes/year of LNG.

The single train is under construction, and LNG deliveries are expected to commence in 2010 under an agreement with Repsol-YPF SA, with the gas heading to markets in Latin America, the US West Coast, and possibly East Asia.

In March Repsol-YPF and Gas Natural Stream acquired three LNG carriers for their joint venture Peru LNG project (OGJ Online, Mar. 5, 2007). In January the project's engineering, procurement, and construction contract was awarded to the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. (OGJ Online, Jan. 24, 2007).

Stakeholders in the project now include: Hunt Oil Co. 50%, SK Energy 20%, Repsol YPF 20%, and Marubeni Corp 10%.
