HOUSTON, Aug. 20 -- Mohave Oil & Gas Corp., private Houston operator, plans to proceed with an exploration program in the Lusitanian basin of west-central Portugal later this year.
The initial work includes two 3D seismic surveys, deepening two wells, and drilling a third well, said DualEx Energy International Inc., Calgary, which has 10% working interest (see map, OGJ, Dec. 9, 2002, p. 32).
Surveying and permitting has started on a 117-sq-km 3D seismic shoot on the 321,000-acre Torres Vedra concession. Field acquisition is to start in late September. The survey is to image several reef prospects, including one near an earlier well drilled on 2D seismic that missed a Jurassic reef but where the well data suggest proximity to a reef buildup.
A rig is to arrive in Portugal in September to deepen the Lapaducos-2 and Aljubarrota-4 wells. Lapaducos-2 will be deepened 1,500 m to evaluate the Upper Jurassic fractured Montejunto carbonate and Middle Jurassic Candieiros limestone targets, updip from light, high quality oil tested in the Benfeito-1 well. Aljubarrota-4 will be deepened 400 m into the lower part of the fractured Brenha carbonate zone and underlying Brenha carbonate grainstone zone.
The third well in the program is Carascal, a Triassic subsalt test. It is to be drilled in first quarter 2008 following the 130-sq-km Aljubarrota 3D survey on the 311,000-acre Aljubarrota concession.
