HOUSTON, Aug. 2 -- Secure Energy Inc. has ordered two entrained-flow gasifiers from Siemens Power Generation for a gasification plant in Decatur, Ill., that will produce natural gas from coal.
The gasifiers will be delivered in early 2009, with plant commissioning expected in mid-2009. The plant, to be built at an existing industrial site, will convert 1.4 million tons/year of high-sulfur Illinois coal into pipeline quality gas.
The plant will have a design capacity to produce 20 bcf/year of synthetic gas. Secure Energy is a St. Louis, Mo., coal conversion technology development company.
Siemens will grant a license to use the Siemens fuel gasification process and will supply process design and basic engineering design packages for the gasification island, two fuel gasifiers, and other key gasification island components.
Coal from International Coal Group Inc.'s Viper Mine in Elkhart, Ill., will be delivered by truck to the Secure Energy plant. At projected plant capacity, ICG is expected to supply 600,000 tons/year.
