Hindustan awards contract for work off India

Hindustan Oil Exploration has let a contract to a unit of Horizon Offshore for the supply, transportation, and installation of an offshore wellhead, platform, topsides, and subsea pipeline.

HOUSTON, Aug. 24 -- Hindustan Oil Exploration Co. Ltd., Houston, has let a contract to a unit of Horizon Offshore Inc. for the supply, transportation, and installation of an offshore wellhead, platform, topsides, and subsea pipeline.

The scope of the contract consists of the transportation and installation of a four-pile jacket and deck and installation of 57 km of 14-in. gas pipeline. The pipeline will originate onshore at a point 200 km south of Chennai along the east coast of India and end at PY-1 gas field in the northern offshore portion of the Cauvery basin 18 km from Porto Novo. The field has estimated gas reserves of more than 200 bcf (OGJ, July 28, 2003, Newsletter).

Horizon will use its Sea Horizon derrick and pipelay barge to perform the work.

Project planning and preparation, including procurement of long lead time items, will begin in the fourth quarter, with offshore construction expected to begin in January 2009.
