LONDON, July 25 -- Operator Statoil AS has temporarily plugged appraisal well 7120/6-2 in Snovhit field in the Barents Sea. It is analyzing data gathered from the operation, and said the results should be ready in September.

The Polar Pioneer semisubmersible rig drilled the well to 3,120 m TD subsea. The well might possibly be used later for injection of formation water or carbon dioxide.

Statoil targeted late Triassic rocks with the well, which was drilled in 321 m of water on Production License 097.

"The goal of the drilling was to gain further information about the thickness of the gas and oil column in the western part of Snøhvit and to find out whether the oil column is situated in a zone with reservoir properties that are sufficiently good for oil recovery," Statoil said.

Statoil has a 33.53% share in Snovhit. Other licensees are Petoro 30%, Total E&P Norge 18.4%, Gaz de France 12%, Amerada Hess Norge 3.26%, and RWE Dea Norge 2.81%.
