HOUSTON, July 27 -- Petrolifera Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, tested light oil from the shallow Cretaceous Centenario formation for the first time on its 100% owned Puesto Morales/Rinconada Concession in Argentina's Neuquen basin.
Well 1028 near the east edge of Puesto Morales tested 46° gravity oil from Centenario at calculated rates of 1,500 b/d on a 24-mm choke and 1,200 b/d on an 18-mm choke. It was making 435 b/d on production.
Most of the block's wells have penetrated Centenario, and some found shows there enroute to the deeper, more productive Jurassic Sierras Blancas and Punta Rosada formations, Petrolifera explained.
The company plans to drill shallow twin wells to existing Sierras Blancas producers to evaluate the extent of the Centenario play. This will include twins near the 1018 well and the 1027 Sierras Blancas discovery, which tested 34° gravity Medanito crude oil through an 18-mm choke at 2,200 b/d and is now making 1,000 b/d on a 12-mm choke.
Meanwhile, the Puesto Morales 1022 well, which cut a calculated 25-m, well-developed Sierras Blancas section in the 1002-1012-1013-1023 central accumulation, flowed 34° gravity oil to surface on test at rates in excess of 900 b/d. Testing continues.
Puesto Morales Oeste 1001 was a disappointing gas producer in the Sierras Blancas and will be evaluated later in Cretaceous Quintuco. The poor result will lead the company to reassess the risk-weighted production from new exploration in southern Puesto Morales, which is likely to reduce targeted third and fourth quarter 2007 oil production and forecast December 2007 exit rates.
