LONDON, July 13 -- Melrose Resources PLC, Edinburgh, is preparing to drill the West Khilala No. 7 (Deep) exploration-appraisal well on the southeastern flank of its El Mansoura concession in the Nile Delta field in Egypt (OGJ Online, Dec. 12, 2006).
The company plans to test an exploration prospect in the deeper Qawasim formation, but it also will delineate the limit of the main productive Abu Madi reservoir.
Recently, Melrose tested 9.6 MMcfd of gas from the northernmost extent of its West Khilala No. 5 development well in Egypt. Gas flowed from two intervals, totaling 38 ft, through a 20/64-in. choke. Melrose has suspended the well, and it will shortly be tied back to existing infrastructure for production. Currently production from West Khilala field is 80 MMcfd.
The West Dikirnis No. 6 well in Egypt tested a separate culmination south of the main West Dikirnis oil field. "The well intersected the top reservoir sand at 9,276 ft, which was found to be water wet," Melrose said. The rig has moved to drill the West Dikirnis No. 8 deviated development well as an oil-producer in the central-eastern area of the field.
The results for the West Kikirnis No. 6 well were disappointing but unsurprising, Melrose said. The West Dikirnis field development is now 75% complete and remains on track for first production at the end of the third quarter, the company said.
