LONDON, July 6 -- Island Oil & Gas PLC will suspend its Old Head of Kinsale sidetrack well off Ireland as a potential producer after the well tested more than 18 MMcfd of dry gas through a 56/64-in. restricted choke. Island estimated absolute open flow potential at 47 MMcfd.

Gas came from the Lower Cretaceous Upper Wealden reservoir at 4,450 ft MD below the rotary table. It's the same formation that the company found 2.5 km to the northeast of the original 49/23-1 discovery well drilled in 2006 (OGJ Online, May 31, 2007).

Sidetrack well 49/23-2z was drilled to 5,140 ft TD on exploration license 4/05 in the Celtic Sea. Well 49/23-1 also will be suspended as a gas producer, Island said.

Island will move the Petrolia semisubmersible rig to nearby exploration license 5/05, which contains Schull gas field, where it will drill its operated gas appraisal well 57/2-3.

Island has a 65% interest in Old Head of Kinsale gas field, where it its partners are Valhalla Oil & Gas Ltd. 20% and EnCore Oil PLC 15%.
