HOUSTON, June 15 -- Exploration for Ordovician Trenton-Black River gas in Quebec's St. Lawrence Lowlands will continue even though flow rates have fallen off at an initial exploratory well, said Questerre Energy Corp., Calgary.

Talisman Energy Inc. elected to exercise its option on Questerre's lowlands acreage even though flow rates at the Gentilly-1 discovery well declined to 340-630 Mcfd from an initial 4.5-9.5 MMcfd in conjunction with water production of 5-344 b/d.

Talisman is committing to shoot more 2D seismic and will suspend the Gentilly well because more drilling is needed to warrant a capital investment in completion and pipeline tie-in, Questerre said.

"In our view, the Gentilly well is a breakthrough for our geological theory that Trenton Black-River reservoirs have formed in the Lowlands. We believe the well is a tremendous success and strongly supports the potential for commercial natural gas in Quebec," the company said.
