Enbridge lets contract for two pipeline projects

Affiliates of Enbridge let a contract to Gulf Interstate Engineering for detailed engineering services for the US portion of the Alberta Clipper and Southern Lights Projects.

HOUSTON, June 8 -- Affiliates of Enbridge Energy Partners LP and Enbridge Inc. have let a contract to Gulf Interstate Engineering Co. for detailed engineering, design, and procurement services for the US portion of the Alberta Clipper and Southern Lights Projects in North Dakota, Minnesota, and northern Wisconsin.

Gulf Interstate was already awarded the preliminary engineering services contract for the two pipeline projects—one for oil, one for diluent (OGJ Online, Jan. 30, 2007). Work will begin immediately and continue through August 2008.

The portion of the Alberta Clipper Project covered under Gulf Interstate's contract includes 326 miles of 36-in. line that will transport oil from the US-Canadian border to Superior, Wis., as well as three 11,000-hp pump stations.

Gulf Interstate's portion of the Southern Lights Project consists of 136 miles of 20-in. line and 190 miles of 20-in. line for the transport of diluent. This project also includes five 6,500 hp pump stations, reverse flow at one existing pump station, conversion of two existing pump stations, and six 200,000 bbl storage tanks.
